Gangster Squad - Review by Stoner Cricket

This is Stoner Cricket Review, where we review movies for Stoners, Ents, and the like. In today's installment I review “Gangster Squad.”

Set in 1949, Gangster Squad is a movie about a mob boss who wants to take complete control of Los Angles. The mob boss, played by Sean Penn, has influence over all the area, including police and judges. Tired of this, the chief of police secretly puts a police Sgt., played by Josh Brolin, in charge of a squad that's set to run the mob out of town.

This is a blog where we review movies on the big screen to let you know if it’s worth the use of your cookie, brownie, or tokes off your pipe, etc. We use the Reddit Ent Scale to represent how stoned we were during the viewing. On a scale from [1 to 10] during the viewing of Gangster Squad, I would say I was about a [3].

Like I had said before my preferred method is to eat a brownie, cookie or some other kind of edible. I eat before the show, before even getting there, and by the time the show is starting it should be taking effect.

We came up with a rating system of up to 7 thumps up to let you know how much the movie is worth seeing baked. Is it worth the use of your trees? We don’t want your trees going to waste! The 7 thumbs up are determined by 3 categories: Effects, Plot, and Sound.

I give a thumb up for Sound. The special Effects for the movie were good, but there was nothing too spectacular. They did a good job making everything look like 1949. I didn't really see anything that looked out of place. I give Effects a thumb up. On to Plot, it was a highly (lol!) entertaining story. However, I felt that some parts were kind of predictable, but even so, there were still a few gasps in the theater when something surprising would happen, lol! In a way, it was reminiscent of a WWII film. The members that made up the Gangster Squad were all just back from the War and had no problem defending their home community from a mob king who was trying to take it over. There was some violence in the movie, which is why it got its R rating, but the violence didn't rise to the same level as in Tarantino's recent Django Unchained. The plot of Gangster Squad was not to difficult to follow. I give two thumbs up for plot.

With a grand total of 4 out of 7 thumps up for Gangster Squad at a [3], Stoner Cricket is on the fence about this movie. You Ents might want to think about saving your Trees, but who knows? The Trees might have been what made Gangster Squad as entertaining as it was!
